Here for a convention? We have the best photo ops on your Las Vegas Strip tour

If you didn't post a bunch of photos from your Las Vegas convention to social media, did you even attend the convention? The practice has become so ubiquitous, it's hard not to jump in on the act. When you want your social media dispatch to stand out, avoid the boring, obligatory photos of convention hall crowds. Instead, take advantage of the unique photo opportunities nearby the Las Vegas Convention Center to give your message the attention it deserves.

Years ago, magician Penn Jillette installed a replica of one of Peppermill Fireside Lounge's booths in his home. That officially makes the 45-year-old lounge a Vegas staple—well, among other things. The mirrored walls dripping with pink and purple neon, the famous fire pit and low-slung sofas straight out of the '70s add up to one amazingly kitschy, truly Vegas backdrop for your Instagram post du jour. If you do find yourself within the friendly confines of Peppermill, be sure to order up the Scorpion, the lounge's signature cocktail. This 64-ounce fishbowl is made up of multiple shots of varying liquors and is a guaranteed party starter… or instant bedtime, depending on how well one can hold all that liquor. The place is about as Vegas as Vegas gets, and your co-conventioneers will definitely want to know where that photo you posted to Facebook was taken.

Westgate Las Vegas boasts a long, storied history unlike most of the city's buildings. It opened in 1969 as the International and played host to such high-caliber entertainers as Barbara Streisand, Liberace and the King himself, Elvis Presley. The Bond classic "Diamonds Are Forever" was filmed here. Its legendary SuperBook, the world's largest sports book, has served as the go-to odds maker for every major sporting event in the past 30 years. The property's name has changed a number of times over the years, and the décor has thankfully been updated, but its history permeates every square foot. Any Elvis fan worth his salt should absolutely make a pilgrimage to the property's impressive showroom that once hosted all 837 of the King's sold out shows.

The vast majority of Glitter Gulch visitors agree Wynn stands as arguably the most lavish of all Las Vegas hotels. Spend any amount of time on the property and you're sure to fall in love. From the opulent theater to the casino floor, it is clear no expense was spared. Where the resort's true splendor comes through is outside at the front of the property, shielded from the bustle of the Las Vegas Strip by a man-made mountain. It's called Lake of Dreams, and this scenic alpine lake complete with 40-foot waterfall transforms into a Technicolor marvel come sundown. Every half hour between 6 and 11:30 p.m. the lake comes to life "in a spectacle of music and imagery created by over 4,000 lights, stunning holographs and puppetry." Savor a cocktail or two on Parasol Down's open-air terrace lakeside. It's a perfect date spot for you and your convention fling and the perfect setting for work trip selfies.

If you want to snap the ultimate selfie during your Las Vegas convention, look no further than Maverick Helicopters' Las Vegas Night tour. You'll receive complimentary ground transportation to and from Mavericks' luxurious Las Vegas Boulevard terminal. The flight path takes guests first along the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard, passing iconic sites such as the fountains of Bellagio and The Mirage's erupting volcano. You'll continue north to Downtown Las Vegas and bustling Fremont Street, where you'll see the city's first casinos including El Cortez, which opened more than 75 years ago. As you make a U-turn, you'll catch glimpses of the city's newer buildings like City Hall and The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The return flight affords guests spectacular views of landmarks like the High Roller and Eiffel Tower. This Vegas Strip tour is the perfect addition to your Vegas convention.
